Just Let Go

By Chris Davis © 2024

When I wake up in the morning
And I’m feeling fear I
Just let go
When every answer is
So unclear I
Just let go
When I’m running hot
And out of gears I
Just let go
When my eyes are
Filling up with tears I
Just let go

(Chorus)
And I tell myself
Everything is gonna be alright
I gotta put it in a different light
Nothing last forever
Let go of that pressure
Everything is going to be alright
I gotta put it in a different light
Nothing last forever
Just let go

In the present when I
Sit and breath I
Just let go
When I’m mindful
As I drink my tea I
Just let go
When I’m walking
Every step in peace I
Just let go
When my gratitude
Sets me free I
Just let go

(Chorus)

(Bridge)
Everything is gonna be alright
Everything is gonna be alright
Everything is gonna be alright
Everything is gonna be alright
(Repeat)

Song Inspiration

I was inspired to write Just Let Go out of a culmination of Thay’s teachings on impermanence and how everything comes to and end. Instead of being controlled by my emotion, mindfulness practices can help me accept and let go of fear, anger, dread, doubt, and disappointment. I may say to myself, “I’m angry. I’m just going to let it go.” But to actually let go of that emotion is hard for me.

What I have learned from Thay is if I use one of the mindfulness practices, like breathing, walking, drinking tea, or gratitude, letting go of my painful emotions becomes much easier.

In practicing with my emotions I’ve learned to say, “I am feeling angry,” instead of, “I am angry,” as helps me not self identify as the fear and call it by it’s true name… it’s just a feeling. It’s not me. So I can just let go.
