It has been a long time since I have written and recorded songs. A crisis of faith ended my first indie decade long music career and I had to take a long road to find peace and happiness. I had to learn to stop, be still, and listen. This is not easy for me. Then I discovered Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh, called Thay by his students, which means teacher. His teachings taught me the practice of mindful living… being fully in the present moment to live life deeply.
These songs are inspired by Thay’s teaching’s, writing mostly late at night sitting on my kitchen counter, when the world and my mind were quiet. In the past, I always recorded for a particular audience who expected a certain style and lyrical focus. I decided to record this album for me, for my pleasure and from the different influences of James Taylor, Sade, Michael Franks, Sam Garrett, and anything from the Yacht Rock canon. I hope you connect with one or more of these songs, be encouraged in your mindfulness practice, and perhaps sing along.
May you find peace,
Chris
