Om Namo

We pay homage

And give honor to

The one who

Showed us the way

All the virtues

Of the World-Honored One

Cannot be adequately praised

Om Namo

Shakyamunaye

Buddhaya, Buddhaya
(Repeat)

Song Inspiration

At the end of Morning and Evening Chants of Plum Village there is a call and response:

“Om Namo Shakamunaye Buddhaya.”

This roughly translates as  “We pay homage/give honor to the sage of the tribe of Shakyan.”

This is not to worship the Buddha, as the Buddha firmly told his disciples that he was not a god nor was he to be worshipped. He encouraged them to question everything he said and find the answers to life within themselves.

Evening Chant

With posture upright and solid,

We are seated at the foot of the Bodhi Tree.

Body, speech and mind, all are one, in stillness;

There is no more thought of right and wrong.

Our minds and bodies dwell in perfect mindfulness,

We rediscover our original nature,

Leaving the shore of illusion behind.

Noble sangha, diligently, bring your mind into meditation.
